The lighter rounds used by the AK-74 allow the operator to carry more ammunition, compared to the larger and heavier 7.62 cartridge. The AK-74 has a flatter trajectory and produces less recoil which promote better accuracy.The 24 mm version should work with a bayonet. The 14 mm threaded one will be too long. Neither one of those will work with a bayonet on the AKM. The 74 has thr bayonet lug on the front sight block. The AKM does not. So I believe the Bulgarian 4 port and the tapco slotted brake are the only two that work.If you need one for an AK-47, the Type 1 bayonet, yes, there IS a new production bayonet. Arsenal made a new Type 1 bayonet in the same profile as their AK-74 bayonets, but, designed to fit the Type 1 lug.
